Dear Parents/Guardians:
The No Child Left Behind Act established standards for all state regarding the academic standards for public schools. Through our NECAP testing, Bellows Falls Middle School has been identified as in need of improvement in the area of math, for students eligible for free and reduced lunch. In order to improve in this area, we are required to spend part of our Title I federal grant money for students to receive extra instruction outside of the regularly scheduled school day, including in the summer. Federal guidelines make these services (called supplemental services) available to student eligible for free or reduced lunches only.
If your child is eligible for free or reduced lunch and you are interested in applying for supplemental services, please look over the enclosed list of approved providers. Only providers on this list may be used to access this funding. While we will pay for supplemental services, there may be limits on the funding level. Also, if we receive lots of requests, student with the lowest achievement will be chosen first. The legislation does not allow us to pay for transportation to and from tutoring sessions. When you are ready to apply, we will supply you with an application, which is processed through our building. Applications must be returned to us by no later than March 1, 2010.
Included is an application for free and reduced lunches, in case you believe your child may qualify and you have not completed the form yet this year.
